Anthropic's skills for Claude

Anthropic publishes 19 skills for Claude in its anthropics/skills repository. Four of them are the document skills behind Claude's file handling: PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The rest cover frontend design, generative art, writing new skills, building MCP servers and calling the Claude API.

This is the reference set. A lot of third-party skills copy its shape: a SKILL.md with a name and a trigger description, then scripts and reference files the agent opens only when the task needs them.

The four document skills are the ones Claude uses to create and edit real Office files and PDFs. They ship under a proprietary license that allows use through Anthropic's services and forbids copying them out. The other fifteen are Apache 2.0, except doc-coauthoring, which states no license of its own.

Questions people ask

Where are Anthropic's skills on GitHub?

In the anthropics/skills repository. Each skill is a folder under skills/, with a SKILL.md and any scripts or references it needs. The repository also holds the Agent Skills specification and a blank template.

Can I use the document skills commercially?

The PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are proprietary. Their license lets you use them through Anthropic's services under your agreement with Anthropic, and forbids copying them out of those services, making derivative works, or redistributing them. The other skills are Apache 2.0, apart from doc-coauthoring, which states no license.

What happened to the Document Skills page?

It covered four skills on one page. Each of the 19 now has its own page, and the document skills are the first group on this one.
