Writing for agents skill

Writing for agents is part of Matt Pocock's engineering skills. Its job is to write skills, AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md files that agents actually follow. It loads on its own when a request matches its description, and you can also call it by name.

When the agent reaches for it

The agent keeps every installed skill's description in view and loads the full instructions when a request matches. This is the description it reads:

Writing documents for agents. Use when creating or editing skills, or modifying AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md.

What the instructions cover

The sections of its SKILL.md, in order.

  • Context pointers
  • The two loads
  • Information hierarchy
  • Steps and completion criteria
  • When to split
  • Leading words
  • Pruning

What ships with it

Besides SKILL.md, the folder carries these. The agent opens them only when a step in the instructions calls for one.

  • agents/ 1 file · 102 B
  • SKILL-MECHANICS.md 3 KB
