Install Snowflake

Choose a harness. These instructions start the same local MCP server shown on this page.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal. It adds a user-scoped server; use --scope project instead if it should apply only to the current project.

terminal
claude mcp add --scope user --transport stdio --env SNOWFLAKE_ACCOUNT=YOUR_SNOWFLAKE_ACCOUNT snowflake -- uvx snowflake-labs-mcp

Replace each YOUR_… value with the required secret before running the command.

What it does

Snowflake MCP connects an agent to warehouse metadata and SQL. It is the Snowflake Labs local server, for answering questions from the warehouse itself.

  • Browse Snowflake schemas and tables.
  • Run warehouse queries when SQL is enabled.
  • Pass the account identifier into the server.
  • Keep Snowflake credentials on the machine that runs the process.

Questions people ask

Does Snowflake MCP need an API key?

It needs a Snowflake account identifier and a Snowflake user login on the server machine.

  1. Click Add to Longwave on this page.
  2. Paste the Snowflake account identifier when Longwave asks.
  3. Provide the Snowflake user login on the machine running the Labs server.
How do I use Snowflake MCP with Claude Code?

Claude Code can list Snowflake schemas or run queries.

  1. Click Add to Longwave on this page.
  2. Paste the Snowflake account identifier when Longwave asks.
  3. Start a thread and pick Claude Code.
  4. Ask Claude Code to list schemas or run a query.
How do I use Snowflake MCP in Cursor?

Cursor can list Snowflake schemas or run queries.

  1. Click Add to Longwave on this page.
  2. Paste the Snowflake account identifier when Longwave asks.
  3. Start a thread and pick Cursor.
  4. Ask Cursor to list schemas or run a query.
Does this need uv?

Yes. Longwave starts snowflake-labs-mcp with uv.

  1. Install uv on the machine that runs the thread.
  2. Click Add to Longwave on this page.
Is this Snowflake's managed MCP server?

Yes. Longwave can connect to Snowflake's managed MCP through a custom Marketplace connection. This catalog entry is the Snowflake Labs local package.

  1. Copy the managed MCP endpoint from your Snowflake account.
  2. Open Marketplace and click Add.
  3. Paste the endpoint URL and complete the setup.
  4. Sign in to Snowflake when the endpoint asks.
  5. Start a thread and ask the agent to use the managed server.
Does it include Cortex Search or Cortex Analyst?

Yes. Longwave can use Cortex Search or Cortex Analyst when your Snowflake account exposes the service. The catalog package also provides warehouse schemas and SQL.

  1. Give the agent the Cortex service or analyst name.
  2. Ask it to use the service for the search or analysis.
  3. Review the generated query and returned evidence.
  4. Use the managed Snowflake MCP connection when the service is not available through SQL.
Can it query a warehouse?

Yes, when the connected role can use that warehouse. Snowflake still bills compute.

  • Connect a role that can use the warehouse, then ask the agent to run the query.
  • Use a read-only role when you only need inspection.
Can it browse schemas?

Yes. Snowflake can return databases, schemas, and tables.

  1. Ask the agent to list databases.
  2. Ask it to list schemas.
  3. Ask it to list tables before writing SQL.
Does Snowflake RBAC still apply?

Yes. The agent sees what the connected role can see. A read-only role is the usual way to keep it from running DDL.

Let the agent query the warehouse, not a stale export.

Give it schemas, account context and the data needed for the answer.
